Strawberry Mint Julep

Mint, always so refreshing and great tasting. In case you couldn't tell, I love mint. Now that summer is leaving us I felt like we needed to celebrate this glorious weather before it starts getting cold again. Since I'm in the south I figured, a julep would be the perfect thing to sip on as the sun is setting. So go get your ingredients and your shakers and make yourself one of these!

What you'll need:

  • 2 tsp. Simple Syrup
  • 3 Strawberries (or strawberry syrup)
  • 8 Mint Leafs
  • 2 oz. Bourbon Whiskey
  • Mint leaves (Garnish)

This drink will take a bit more work than most cocktails but it'll still be pretty simple. First you'll pour the strawberries, mint and simple syrup into the shaker and muddle them. To muddle them, simply use your muddler (or a spoon, or your hands, or anything that can crush them) and press down softly in order to squish the mint and fruit. Do not press to hard as you're only trying to release the juices not actually destroy the fruit. If you don't have strawberries or don't feel like muddling, feel free to use a bit of strawberry syrup. I'd recommend half an ounce to maybe an ounce (depending on how sweet you like cocktails) but I will strongly recommend using fresh strawberries.

  1. Pour everything except whiskey into shaker
  2. Muddle the ingredients
  3. Pour whiskey
  4. Add ice and shake
  5. Strain into glass
  6. Garnish and enjoy!
